Cedar Rapids Gazette-Monday 26 July,1993-Philip R. Maly, 53, of 18th St SW, died Saturday morning in his home after a short illness. Burial Wednesday, Sisley Grove Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Lance and wife, Maureen of St. Louis; a daughter, Michelle Hanson and husband, Carter, of Iowa City, IA., his mother, Alice of Cedar Rapids, IA., a brother Ron and wife, Maxine of West Des Moines, IA. and Phil's former wife, Mary Jane Maly of Decorah, Ia. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Maly. Born May 21, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, IA. to Julius & Alice Usher Maly, he married Mary Jane Duggan on April 12, 1966. Mr Maly received his B.A. degree from the University of Iowa. For many years he worked as a sports journalist for the Des Moines Register and was a sports editor for the Quad City Times abd Decorah Journal. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Optimist Club, Western Fraternal Organization and National Sportswriters Association.
