Donald C. Marek, former longtime resident of Los Altos Hills, died peacefully in the company of his family November 6, 2004 at his home in Danville. He was 73.
Mr. Marek was a retired builder. In the late 1970's he launched Marek Development Company, in downtown Los Altos. He and his company built dozens of distinctive homes, leaving behind a legacy from San Jose to San Mateo.
He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University. He spent several years as a pilot in the U.S.A.F, stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County. He met his late wife, Geri, in San Anselmo, and they were married in 1957.
Mr. Marek was a loyal sports fan, holding Stanford University football season tickets for over thirty years. He spent his retirement supporting all of his favorite teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.
He is survived by his five children, Randy, Jeff, Jennifer, Allison Atkins, and Donnie; daughters-in-law, Liz, Bobbi and Sara; son-in-law Alexander Atkins and eight grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held at the Atkins' home in Los Altos Hills on November 11, 2004. In acknowledgment of his service to the country, a USAF honor guard attended the event.
