Isreal Minehart the fourth child and the oldest son of Philip and Christena Minehart; was born at Lancaster, the county seat of Fairfield county, Ohio, march 30, 1827. In 1853 he came to buffalo township. Due to an accident while swimming when a small boy Isreal had the misfortune to cripple his left hand which was paralyzed in such a manner as to be held close to his armpit. He chopped wood and grubbed for a living and could handle an axe with his one hand as good as most men with two. None of his brother ever became addicted to the use of tobacco. Isreal seemed to realize this and proceeded to chew enough for all five. He kept his money in a round tin baking box about three inches in length and an inch and a half in diameter. This he swathed in almost innumerable hander kerchiefs and stuffed the bulky mess in his pocket. He whittle a great deal, sharpening his knife to a hair edge on his boots. J.A. Brown bears witness to its sharpness. Isreal wore many pairs of pants and carried his surplus clothes in a sack. He stayed around among his nieces and nephews and died at the home of Hinton and Mollie Brunner smith, June 23, 1897 at the age of seventy years, two months and twenty four days.
