(Special to The Gate City)
MONTROSE, Iowa, Jan. 4. - Mrs. Martha E. Morrison, one of the most highly esteemed residents of Montrose, died suddenly at her home at this place at 1:30 o'clock this morning. Although in poor health for the past four or five years, the immediate cause of her death was heart failure.

She was suddenly stricken early this morning and called to her niece, who was staying with her. The latter saw that Mrs. Morrison was in a serious condition and summoned several neighbors, who were at the bedside when the stricken woman breathed her last.

Mrs. Morrison had been a resident of Montrose for many years and was well known in the town and throughout the countryside. All of her many friends have heard with sincere regret of her death. The decedent was born at Batavia, Clarmont county, Ohio, on March 12, 1846, coming west at an early date. Her maiden name was Martha Glancy and she was married to Frank Morrison at her father's home in Jefferson township, Lee County, Iowa, a few miles north of Montrose, in the year 1866.

The only near survivor is a brother, Fletcher H. Glancy, who lives three miles from Montrose. The funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet. The decedent was a member of the Baptist church from girlhood and was an active and enthusiastic church worker all of her life.
