KAHOKA, Mo. - Iva I. Elder, 85, of the Montrose Health Care Center, died Saturday. Feb. 25. in Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born Feb. 2, 1910, In Weldon, Iowa, to Charles and Sarah Jane Nichols Bretz. She married Ben L. Elder in November 1932 at Princeton Mo.

Survivors include: three sons, Ben B. Elder of Tucson. Arlz.. Gerald "Red" Elder of Kahoka, and Edward Elder of Sumas, Wash; three daughters, Ruth McVey of Keokuk, Betty Brooks of Middletown, Mo., and Mildred Brooks of Missoula, Mont.; a brother, Ben Bretz of Sacramento. Calif.: two sisters, Jennie Rose Sutter of Lebanon, Ore., and Alice Woods of Des Moines; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in-death by a son, two granddaughters, a grandson and seven brothers.

She was of the Protestant faith. She had been a resident of the Montrose Health Care Center for the past year and a resident of Keokuk for 32 years. Prior to that, she had lived in the Chambersburg neighborhood in Clark County. Mo. where she had raised her children.

Services were today at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Chambersburg Cemetery north of Kahoka.
