Vernette Charles Wilhelm, 66, 3616 Avenue L, died at 1:14 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, in Sacred Heart Hospital. He had been in failing health five years and seriously ill one day.
Mr. Wilhelm was born Oct. 23, 1909, at Donnellson and was a lifelong resident of the Fort Madison area. He was a retired Santa Fe railroad employee with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church.
On May 11, 1935, at Kahoka, MO., he married Ellen Margaret Griswold, who died March 10, 1975.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Don (Diana) Mueller, Fort Madison, two brothers, John of New Boston, Iowa, and Marshall of Montrose; three sisters, Mrs. George (VI) Barnes and Mrs. Chuck (Elaine) Boyer, both of Golden, Colo., and Mrs. Robert (Melba) McClanahan, Boston, Mass.; and four grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter. His parents were Charles Jacob and Georgie Snider Wilhelm.
The body is at the Barr Memorial Chapel where final rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Wilbert Trusheim will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
The Family will meet friends from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening at Barr Memorial Chapel.
