Ronald Dee Cass, 74, died Monday, Memorial Day, May 27, 2013.
A graveside memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa.
Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Cass was born April 30, 1939, in Birmingham, the son of Warren and Kathryn Cass. He married Bernadette April 28, 1962, in Farmington.
He graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1956.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957.
He traveled in the Navy on many overseas cruises and assignments to Whidbey Island in Washington, Tennessee, Virginia, Japan, the Philippines and finally, back to Whidbey. He retired from the Navy in June of 1980 as master chief aircraft maintenanceman.
Following naval retirement, he went to work at Honda Motorcycle Shop, then as an aircraft mechanic for Harbor Air.
He returned to Naval Air Station Whidbey, working as a contract employee for Brown & Root, DelJen and finally for Chugach before retiring again.
He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and taking road trips.
He and his wife traveled by motorcycle to Reno, Nevada, several years ago.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392, American Legion, George Morris Post 129, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 97 and the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge No. 2362, all of Oak Harbor, Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Bernie; two children Barbara Keen and spouse David of Kennewick, Washington and Ronald D. Cass, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Marvin Cass of Solon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
