Denzil Poggemiller

Denzil "Pogge" Poggemiller, 72, of Keokuk, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Pleasant Grove, he was the son of Rall and Ethel Todd Poggemiller. He first married Norma Butler. He later married Patricia Gilman on Jan. 18, 1991.

Mr. Poggemiller was a graduate of Burlington High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an electrician for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1991.

He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of West Burlington Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheila Logan of West Burlington and Rebecca Ewinger of Burlington; one son, Michael Poggemiller of West Burlington; two stepdaughters, Sharon Parker of West Burlington and Karen Grimes of Burlington; one stepson, Thomas Calhoun of Braidwood, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and his first wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three step-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday at Lunning Chapel.

The graveside funeral service for Mr. Poggemiller will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery of Pleasant Grove, with the Rev. Richard Shaw officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162 and American Legion Post 52.

Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association and West Burlington Fire Department.
