The book says the first white casualty was Pvt. John Cox.
The second person the book mentions is Lt Thomas Hamilton, who saved most of his troops by having them dig a trench to the river during the night, lighting the blockhouse on fire and sneaking his troops down the trench to the indians canoes and away to safety.
