Keokuk Register, re-printed in the Davenport Gazette, Sept. 9, 1847.

Distressing death- A Mr. Hatch of this County charged with being leagued with the Mormons, was notified to leave the County by a certain day. Not departing at the time specified, a number of persons one night of last week, attacked his house. He probably suspected violence and fired at what he supposed to be the body of one of the assailants seen through a chink of the door. The ball entered the heart of his wife who could only exclaim, "Pa, you have killed me!"
