JOSEPH A. NUNN, a resident of Washington Township, is the proprietor of 100 acres of good land where he has a comfortable dwelling and convenient farm buildings. He was born in Marion County, Ind., March 12, 1841, and came to Iowa with his parents when but an infant. He received a common-school education, and grew to manhood accustomed to mercantile pursuits. He subsequently engaged in insurance and for two years was the partner of Charles E. Babcock, engaged in the grain trade.
Mr. Nunn served four years as Deputy Sheriff of Lee County, and was then elected Sheriff, holding this position two terms. At the expiration of this time he returned to the insurance business, becoming State Agent for the Connecticut Fire of Hartford. He was married in 1866, to Miss Elizabeth C., daughter of Thomas and Mary Espy, and a native of Franklin, Pa. Of this marriage there were born ten children, as follows: John E., Ralph A., Mary L., Emma Josephine, Thomas E., Elizabeth C, Joseph A., Edgell, May L., Louis.
