LESSENGER, JACOB H.. HON., stock-dealer and farmer; was born March 19, 1830, at Winchester, Va., and, in 1844, removed to Champaign Co., Ohio. ; remained for eleven years and removed to Muncie. Delaware Co., Ind., where he was twice elected Assessor; leaving Indiana, he again journeyed westward ; in 1864, came to Henry Co., Iowa, afterward removing to Lee Co., West Point, where he located in 1869; afterward became Mayor of that city. His educational advantages were limited to those afforded by the common schools of the county. Married in Muncie, Ind., 1858, Miss Mary Driscoll; have seven children, the eldest 20 years of age, and the youngest 18 months. The confidence of his neighbors in him, has been repeatedly manifested by calling him to fill various responsible positions ; he is now one of the Board of Trustees of the Independent District of West Point, President of the Lee Co. Stock Association ; was the originator of the present District Fair, and Representative to the Seventeenth General Assembly of Iowa. Mr. Lessenger is an active, energetic, wide-awake business man, and his colleagues in the Legislature bear willing testimony to his careful attention to business in that honorable body.
