RUSSELL, ROBERT A., insurance agent ; was born in Maryville, Blount Co., Tenn., Dec. 12, 1803; he received his education there and prepared himself for teaching. He married Miss Louisa D. Spyker, a native of Abingdon, Va., in August, 1833; in October, they came to Illinois and lived there until 1839, when they came to Iowa and located at Fort Madison. He engaged in teaching for three or four years. Was elected to the office of County Treasurer, Collector and Recorder ; he held the position of Secretary and Agent of the projected railroad from Fort Madison ; he was elected County Judge and served four years; he was appointed Assistant Assessor of Internal Revenue for this district. He is now engaged in the insurance business. Judge and Mrs. Russell have had three children, none of whom survive. They are members of the Presbyterian Church; Judge Russell has served as Elder in this church for over fifty years.
