DENMARK TOWNSHIP.

FIELD, ISAAC, retired ; residence East street, Denmark ; was born in Peterboro, Hillsboro Co., N. H., in 1804; at the age of 21, having received an academical education, taught school one winter, then went to Boston, where he entered the counting-room of a large lumber firm and remained until 1830. He married Miss Mary Green, born in Charlestown, Mass., Feb. 24, 1807 ; she lost her parents when a child, and was educated in Boston by Mr. Clapp ; they were married March 20, 1830. Soon after, he entered the hide and leather business, under the firm name of Field, Converse & Field, a brother of Mr. F. the third party ; this he continued until 1838, then removed to Iowa, purchased a farm near Denmark, which he improved and cultivated for a few years ; then, with Fox & Epps, of Denmark, he engaged in pork-packing and shipping to his brother in Boston ; just before the war, he sold his farm. Republican ; Mr. and Mrs. F. have been members of the Congregational Church for many years ; he joined when a boy ; has held the office of Deacon in the Church here since its organization ; Mrs. F. was a member of the Old South Church in Boston. They were prominent in the Antislavery and temperance movements. He has held the office of Justice of the Peace for several years.
