CLEMENS, ORION, attorney at law, corner of Fifth and Blondeau streets; was born in Gainsborough, Tenn., in 1825 ; was editor of the Union in Hannibal, Mo., from 1850 until 1853 ; was editor of Muscatine Journal 1853 and 1854. In 1861, he was appointed Secretary of Nevada Territory, which position he occupied until 1864. Immediately after Nevada became a State, he was elected Representative to the Lower House ; served one term. In 1866, he went to St. Louis and became connected with the St. Louis Democrat in 1867. In 1870, he went to Hartford, Conn., and became editor of a literary paper, and afterward a political paper in 1873 ; edited a Republican daily paper at Rutland, Vt. ; came to Keokuk in 1874, since which year he has been engaged in the practice of law. Mr. Clemens married Miss Mary Stotts in this city in 1855.
