Answers Summons — Funeral Held Friday.(By B. F. Reed)
Frank Becker, a resident of this county for the past thirty-five years, died at his home in this city at four o’clock last Wednesday morning, April 10th. He had been in poor health for a couple of years, but had been confined to his bed in his last sickness for only a few days. His affliction was an ailment in the nature of diabetes. He was born at Dantzig, Germany, January 31, 1840, and at the same place was married to Annie Kuhnke, November 4, 1870. During the year 1884 the family came to America and settled at LuVerne in this county, where for eleven years Mr. Becker worked as a section hand on the Northwestern track. The following nine years the family lived in the timber, across the river a mile south of Algona. Then for ten years they lived on Ben Reed’s Cresco farm.
Old age coming on, Mr. and Mrs. Becker moved to the county seat five years ago in order to lead a less strenuous life than they had been experiencing on the farm.
Three sons and four daughters were born to this couple. They are Theodore, at the home; August and Martin, each managing a farm in Cresco; Mrs. Martha Stewart of Algona; Mrs. Annie Taylor of Titonka and Mrs. Gertie Koppen and Mrs. Lizzie Koppen of the Germania community.Mr. Becker was a good citizen and much admired by his acquaintances. Although born in Germany, he was loyal to the American cause in the great world war. The funeral was held from the Catholic church Friday morning, Father Maynard conducting the services.
