Donald Boeckholt, 87, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

Donald was born July 16, 1924. He grew up in the Bancroft/Woden area where he helped on the family farm. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Ruth A. Johnson on September 5, 1952. Donald was a union carpenter and helped restore the Iowa State Capitol in the 1960's. He retired in 1978. Donald enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; six children, Roberta Jackson, Dianne (Earnest) Prather, Marsha (Kurt) Hammer, Donald H. (Sarah) Boeckholt, Laurie (Steve) Draper and Steven Boeckholt; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; brother, Harvey (Donna) Boeckholt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marie Boeckholt; brothers, Harold and Johnny Boeckholt; sisters, Edna Knowles, Elda Cushman and Elinor Burch; sons-in-law, David Jackson, Richard "Ron" LaPlante and Robert Gonzales.
