Otto Virgil Ernest Sperlich 1930-2022

Otto Virgil Ernest Sperlich, the son of Herman O. and Elsa Sperlich was born on December 10, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota. He passed away on February 28, 2022, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa at the age of 91 years.
Otto graduated from high school in Mitchell, South Dakota before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Otto met Callita Schiavoni while he was stationed at Larson Air Force Base in Washington. The couple was married on June 19, 1954, Otto and Callita then moved to Huron, South Dakota and then to Willmar, Minnesota in 1976.
Otto worked as a business machine repairman for Davis Business Machines.
After retirement, they traveled the United States for 10 years before settling in Tucson, Arizona. Ten years later, the couple relocated to the Swea City/Armstrong Iowa area to be closer to family.
Otto was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Swea City and a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching Fox News, going camping, and traveling the United States in their 5th wheel camper.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Callita Sperlich; his children, Carmen (Jerry) Hanson, Atwater, Minnesota, Teressa (Dale) Johanson, Armstrong, Katharine (Duane) Bohlsen, Arnolds Park,Iowa, Jeanette (Randy) Gatzemeyer, Willmar, Minnesota, and Virgil (Robyn) Sperlich, Coon Rapids, Minnesota; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Otto is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Pearl Faris.
A funeral service was held Monday, March 7, 2022 at Our Savior Lutheran church in Swea City.
