February 26, 1952CLARK COFFIN RITES SET FOR THURSDAY.
Funeral services for Clark S. Coffin will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Burt Methodist church. Rev. Handy, former pastor, now of Corwith, will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Bancroft.Mr. Coffin had been in failing health for the past year, but not confined to his bed until a month ago. He was taken to St. Ann hospital 10 days ago following a stroke, and passed away there Monday afternoon, Feb. 25.
He was born in Portland twp., March 29, 1878, the sixth child of Clark S. and Aurilla Coffin, pioneers of Kossuth county. He spent his entire life in the county.
In 1900, he moved to Burt area, where he farmed for many years, and also did well drilling and tiling. In 1907, he was married at Bancroft to Maud Merrifield of Bancroft, who survives him, as do three children: Charles C. and Maurice M, of Milwaukee, and Mary Beth (Mrs. Robert Hamilton) of Burt. There are also six grandchildren.
A brother, George, lives at San Diego, and Sherwood McDonald of Algona, and Stanley McDonald of Oregon, are nephews, and a niece, Mrs. Gay, lives in San Diego.

Thursday, February 28, 1952C.S. Coffin, Burt, who died Monday at the St. Ann Hospital, following a stroke reported last week, was a brother-in-law of Barber Merrifield, Algona, whose sister is Mrs. Coffin. The Merrifields formerly lived at Bancroft.
Mr. Coffin's first name, Clark, was also that of his father, a well known Burt figure 50 years ago. The children in the parental family were then active among the young people of the community. Clark Jr. would have been 74 had he lived till March 29.
The brother George now lives at San Diego, Calif. The late Mrs. W. E. McDonald, and the late Mrs. Harry McMurray, Algona, were sisters of the brothers. A brother Zell and a sister, Mrs. Artie Graham, died many years ago, also another sister, Mrs. Abe Connally, whose husband, after her death, lived alone for some years on So. Phillips street here.
Barber Merrifield will close his shop for the afternoon today and with his wife will attend the funeral at the Burt Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with interment at Bancroft. Supervisor and Mrs. Sherwood McDonald will also attend, and the Coffin children, two sons from Milwaukee, and Mrs. Robert Hamilton, north of Burt, will be in attendance.
