Sister Gayle Brabec, BVM (Luellen), age 89, of 1130 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, was called home suddenly on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque.
To celebrate Sister Gayle Brabec's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018, in the Marian Hall Chapel. To honor Sister Gayle's life, a time for Sharing of Memories, and a funeral liturgy will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa.
Sister Gayle was a regional for the BVM congregation in Davenport, Iowa, principal in Des Moines, Iowa, and served in rural life ministry for the Dioceses of Davenport and Sioux City, Iowa. She was director of the Rural Life Office for the Archdiocese of Louisville, and director of The Life Center in Frenchburg, Ky. She was also an elementary teacher in Chicago, Illinois; Boulder, Colorado; and Kauai, Hawaii; principal in Butte, Montana; and an audio-visual coordinator in Hempstead and West Hempstead, New York.
She was born into life on September 21, 1928, in Perham, Minnesota, daughter of Paul and Lucy Frimml Brabec. She entered the BVM congregation September 8, 1947, from St. Joseph Parish, Wesley, Iowa. She professed her first vows on March 19, 1950, and final vows on August 15, 1955.
Those left to cherish Sister Gayle Brabec's life include her sister, Virginia Rice, Bridgeton, Missouri;several nieces and nephews;
and her fellow Sisters of Charity, with whom she shared life for 70 years.
Sister Gayle was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Support Fund, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, 52003
