Lakota Man Committed Suicide Last Friday
Julius Henning, 60, prominent farmer living one and one half miles east of Lakota, committed suicide about 8:30 Friday night by shooting himself through the heart with a sawed off shot gun at his farm home.
Ferd and Gust Koppen, nearby neighbors heard the shot but knew that Henning was accustomed to shooting around the farm at frequent intervals. They were not aware of the suicide until called by members of the family. He had sawed the gun off in the evening and later walked out of the house with the gun into the yard where he was found dead.

Julius Henning Uses Sawed Off Shot Gun To End His Life
Julius Henning, 60, prominent farmer living one and a half miles east of Lakota committed suicide at 8:30 Friday night by shooting himself through the heart with a sawed off shot gun at his farm home.
Ferd and Gust Koppen, nearby neighbors, heard the shot but knew that Mr. Henning was accustomed to shooting around the farm at frequent intervals. They were not aware of the suicide until called by members of the family. He had sawed the gun off in the evening and later walked out of the house with the gun into the yard where he was found dead.
Mr. Henning was a widower and lived on the farm with his son-in-law Cliff Wallace.
He was in Lakota during the day looking after business matters as usual. Despondency and worry was considered the motive for his act.
Coroner W. A. Evans of Algona was called to the farm home and gave his verdict as suicide. The body was taken to the Schutter undertaking parlors at Buffalo Center.
Sheriff Carl Dahlhauser, his deputy Casey Loes and County Attorney Maurice McMahon were also called to the scene and made an investigation.
