GONE TO HIS REWARD

Christian Dau Passes Away on
Monday at His Home
in Burt,

A PROSPEROUS FARMER

He Came to Kossuth in 1876
and Was a Respected Citizen.

Christian Dau passed gently away, at his home in Burt, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon on Monday. The news was received with feelings of regret by our citizens, for no one here thought that he was in danger of departing life so soon. He had been ailing for a year or two with diabetes, and recently a complication of diseases became manifest.

He came to this county with his family in 1876 and settled on his home farm in Union township. His success as a farmer and financial manager was remarkable. By degrees he added to his possessions until he owned a large acreage of the finest land. He raised a large family of children, gave each a farm, and died still owning several hundred acres of land.

By his economy and good judgment he set a pattern that thousands would do well to imitate. He was not a rusher in business, but everything he did was done well as he could do it. He planned carefully, with a direct aim in view, and grand results followed his efforts. Money-making and land-acquiring were not the sole objects of his life, for he was a consistent member of the M.E. Church and contributed liberally to its cause. He was a man whom all loved to trust, for his word was as good as his bond.

He was born in Mecklenberg-Schwerien, Germany, May 21, 1834, and was married to Fredericka Giese, a native also of Germany. They came to America in 1866, locating at Whitewater, Wisconsin, where they resided they resided for ten years. During that period he worked at the wagon-maker's trade. About three years ago they retired from active labor and moved from their farm, three miles north of town, to Burt, where Mr. Dau, on Monday, ceased his earthly career.
Seven of his eight children survive him and are well settled in life.

The funeral was held at the M.E. Church, Burt, yesterday afternoon.
