Clarence Elbert Hunt was born May 22, 1922 in Swea City, son of Elbert and Jessie (Clark) Hunt. He grew up near Swea City graduating from Grant Township country school in 1939. Clarence was married to Evelyn Butterfield on October 22, 1943 in Swea City. He served in the United States Army during World War II being discharged in February, 1946. He then worked for R. & C. Motors in Algona as a mechanic until 1952 and then worked for Bud Robinson Construction for two years. Clarence also worked for Percival Motors for 8 years and then for 23 years as a mechanic at Bituminous. Following retiring in 1987, he continued working for Giese Redi-Mix for a short time. Clarence enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles and model cars together. He loved John Wayne movies and collectibles and also collected John Deere memorabilia and die cast cars. He enjoyed helping his family and friends and was an active volunteer in his church and his community. He was a member of the Algona First United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Algona VFW and American Legion. Clarence Hunt died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Hunt of Algona; four children, Linda Schultz of Algona, Duane (Lynda) Hunt of Plattsmouth, NE, Eugene (Patty) Hunt of Algona, and Lou Rae Flower of Gladstone, MO; five grandchildren, Channon (Antone) Oseka of Omaha, NE, Carla (Eric) Parrack of Gretna, NE, Mindy (Mike) Hunt-McCollow of Algona, Beth (Corey) Johnson of Algona, and Jessica (Reece) Preston of Gladstone, MO; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Delbert Hunt; two sons-in-law, Gary Schultz and Greg Flower; and two sisters, Alice Hunt and Hazel Layton.
