Death of Lasley Barton.
Lasley Barton of near Lu Verne died on Friday of last week, and in his death one of the early pioneers and one of the best men in this section of the country has passed to his reward. He was born in Ohio in May, 1842, and there grew to young manhood. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in CO. I, 27th Illinois infantry, and served three years and three months. He was severely wounded at the battle of Belmont and carried the bullet in his flesh to the day of his death. There were five sons in the family, and four of them served in the army. He and us brother, Leander, who survives him, came to Iowa in 1865 and settled where they have since lived, and for years Barton's Groves were landmarks in that section of country. Deceased was married in 1867, in Wright county, to Misa Elizabeth Hughes. His wife and three sons and one daughter survive him, to each of whom he left a fine estate, as he prospered well and became wealthy. His home farm of 440 icres is one of the finest and best equipped farms in northern Iowa. The sons are all married and live close to the parental home, and the daughter is now in California on account of her health. Mr. Barton was a member of the Methodist church from his early youth, and was ever a religious and God-fearing man. The funeral was held Monday from the M. E. church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Lu Verne cemetery.
