Daniel J Long was for 62 years a resident of Kossuth County, passed away Monday at the home of his daughter Jennie Sabin in Kanawha Iowa. The year was 1937.

Funeral services for the aged pioneer, who came up the Misisippi River Valley in the late 1860's and into Iowa were held Wednesday afternoon at the Mccullogh funeral home. Interment at the Riverview Cemetery (lot 132) in Algona, IA. Rev. A. English had charge of the services. Mr Long was 93 years of age at his death.

Born September 2, 1844 in South Sterling Pennsylvania, Mr long after coming to Kossuth County in his youth, worked for many years as a brick maker and brick layer in this vicinity. Many of the early buildings, some of which are still standing, were products which he helped build. He also farmed.

Surviving besides Mrs Sabin is another daughter Caroline Beenken of Titonka, IA and a son Daniel Jr of Dakota, a brother Richard in Seattle Washington and two sisters Jennie Long and Emma Long Carleton both of South sterling PA.

Mr Long made his home with his daughter in Kanawha the last six years of his life. he was widely know, especially among the older generation and was know for his checker playing ability. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

His wife Elizabeth preceded him in death 11 years before.
