Everett Steven of Algona died Thursday, May 20 (2004), in the Titonka Care Center where he had been a resident since March of 2000. He was 83.
Masonic Rites were conduced by Prudence Lodge No. 205 AF & AM at 7 p.m. Monday, with Order of the Eastern Star services by Algona chapter No. 68 at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral service for him was conducted by the Rev. Mike Orthel at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the LuVerne Cemetery, the Oakcrest Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Harvey Steven, David Steven, Lyn Anderson, James Steven, Elzo Lewerke and Dennis J. Bradley.
A son of Harvey and Anna Wermersen Steven, Everett was born November 5, 1920 at Sexton in Kossuth County, Iowa. He graduated from Algona
High School in 1940, and lived much of his life in the Sexton area.Everett was married to Doris Genrich at LuVerne on October 4, 1942. Doris died January 7, 1974 and he continued to live on the farm. Farming was his life until 1984 when he retired and moved into Algona.
Everett enjoyed fishing as a hobby. He was a more than 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church at Algona, a member of
Prudence Lodge No. 205 AF & AM, the Order of the Eastern Star and Abu Bekr Shrine Club.Survivors include his daughter, Anne Kiess and her husband, Robert, Algona; sons, Richard Steven and wife, Diane, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Craig Steven and wife, Debra, of Lakota. He has seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris, brothers, Lloyd, Wilbur and Leo and sisters, Pearl Hodgin and Wilma Steven.
