Raymond A. Johnson died Monday morning, Aug. 7, 2006, at the age of 92 at Valley Vue Care Center, Armstrong. He became a resident there December, 2004.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ledyard with Reverend Doug Van Der Pol officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 Wednesday at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church and will continue prior to the service on Thursday. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Alfred Johnson was born Sept. 8, 1913, at Malcolm, to John J. and Alvina Engelbarts Johnson. His family moved to Ledyard when Ray was two and he attended country schools there. Ray worked on the family farm and on Jan. 29, 1941, he married Ella W. Goetz at Ledyard. Ray was a carpenter then following his marriage, the couple farmed in the Ledyard and Bancroft areas. Ray enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, dancing, playing cards and bullhead fishing but his greatest love was playing baseball and softball.

Survivors include his wife, Ella, of the Valley Vue Care Center, sons Kirk Johnson and wife, Joyce, of Mazeppa, Minn., and Bruce Johnson and wife, Tammy, of Fairmont, Minn., as well as four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Duane Johnson and wife, Laura, of Ledyard, Reuben Johnson and wife, Beverly, of Ringsted, Merle Johnson and wife, Ramona, of Ledyard, sisters, Helen Kessel and husband, Amos, of Lanesboro, Minn., Laura Willey of Algona, Viola Albers of Crystal Lake, and Luella Hagedorn of Buffalo Center.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Glen, Ervin and Everett, sister Alice Nauman, brothers-in-law, Hugh Willey, Raymond Albers, LeRoy Nauman and Melbourne Hagedorn and sister-in-law Sophia Johnson.
