March 19, 1852KOSSUTH IN ST. LOUIS
The illustrious Hungarian arrived at St. Louis on the 9th inst., at 8 o’clock, P. M. on the steamer Emperor. A crowd of seven or eight thousand persons had assembled on the Levee to welcome him.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Kossuth was waited upon by several delegations. Among others, from Iowa. General Van Antwerp, of Keokuk, addressed Kossuth, who said, in his reply, that “if the affairs in Europe did not sooner demand his presence there then he anticipated, he might yet be able to thank the people of Iowa, in person, for the kindness extended to him.”
