Biography reproduced from page 474 of the History of Kossuth and Humboldt Counties, Iowa published in 1884:

Samuel Sands, son of Samuel and Artemesia Sands, was born in Hancock, Delaware Co., N. Y., Aug. 30, 1830. When seven years of age he removed with his parents to Broome Co., N. Y. In 1842 they removed to Illinois and purchased a farm in Boone county, where Mr. Sands engaged in farming until 1863, also studying veterinary surgery and training horses. He then removed to Mitchell Co., Iowa, where he practiced his profession. In 1865 he came to Kossuth county, taking a homestead of 160 acres on section 35, township 98, range 29, Greenwood township. He has since purchased forty acres on section 35, adjoining his original farm to the south. Mr. Sands was married Dec. 10, 1857, to Harriet Tyler, daughter of John and Parmelia Tyler, of Delaware Co., N. Y. They have had eight children, seven of whom are living—Wallace B., Paul, Clausen, Mark, Ruth, Ezra and John. Mr. Sands is a republican in politics.
