Biography reproduced from page 468 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

O. M. Huber has for three years been identified with the agricultural development of Prairie township, where he owns one hundred and twenty acres of land. He was born in Seneca county, Ohio, on the 24th of April, 1867, and is a son of Jacob and Catherine (Shedenhelm) Huber. The parents were born, reared and married in the Buckeye state, whence they came to Iowa in January, 1868, locating in Iowa county. There the father purchased a farm a mile and a half from Marengo, which he cultivated until his death in 1870. In the paternal line the family is of German extraction, but the maternal ancestors were Dutch and upon their arrival in this country first located in Maryland. To Mr. and Mrs. Huber were born three children: Marcena, the wife of Charles Umbarger, of Michigan; Clarence D., who is a resident of Marengo, this state; and O. M., our subject. After the father’s death the mother subsequently married W. M. Umbarger, and they became the parents of two children: C. H., who is a resident of Marengo; and Nellie, the wife of A. B. Klein, of Eagle Grove, Iowa. The mother is still living and continues to make her home in Marengo.

As O. M. Huber was only an infant when he accompanied his parents to their removal to Iowa, the greater part of his life has been passed in this state. He began his education in the common schools of Iowa county and completed it in the Omaha Commercial College. He remained at home and assisted in the cultivation of the farm until he was twenty-five, when he engaged in the restaurant business in Marengo. He continued in this for several years with good success, but later turned his attention again to agricultural pursuits, and in 1909 located on the farm he now owns in Prairie township. During the period of his ownership he has tiled his fields and has made various other improvements on his place consistent with the spirit of progress he at all times manifests in his undertakings. He is a man of enterprise and diligence and exercises as much system and foresight in directing the operation of his farm as he would use in the development of a commercial enterprise, and to this fact must be attributed much of his success. In connection with general farming, Mr. Huber is engaged in raising graded cattle and Poland China hogs.

In 1894, Mr. Huber was married to Miss Lena Thissen, and they have two children, Eugene M. and Catherine N. The family are communicants of the Roman Catholic church and he was formerly a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, while he accords his political support to the republican party. Mr. Huber is numbered among the substantial citizens of his community, being the owner of one of the valuable farms of Prairie township, in addition to which he holds the title to some real estate in Iowa county. During the period of his residence here he has won and retained the good-will and esteem of many of his neighbors and fellow citizens, as he is a man of genial manners and upright principles.
