Biography reproduced from page 58 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

C. H. Lichty is one of the well known and successful merchants of Luverne, where he has been engaged in the general merchandising and hardware business since 1885. He was born in Belleview, Huron county, Ohio, October 12, 1857, and is a son of Peter and Julia (Bradbrook) Lichty, the former a native of Strassburg, France (now Germany) and the latter of Ohio. At the age of four years he emigrated with his parents to America, who made their first settlement at Columbus, Ohio. They later took up their abode at Bucyrus, Crawford county, Ohio, and from there moved to Sac City, Iowa, after which they removed to Toledo, this state, where the paternal grandparents of C. H. Lichty died.

Peter Lichty, the father of the subject of this review, is of French-German extraction. Both languages were used in his father’s home. He established his home in Toledo, Iowa, in 1861, where he has since continued to live. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Bradbrook, a native of Ohio, of English descent. To Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lichty seven children were born: C. H., the subject of this review; Gustavus, a resident of Toledo, Iowa; Clara, who is the wife of J. G. Johnson, of Chelsea, Iowa; Rufus, who makes his home in Toledo, Iowa; Barbara Lucretia, the wife of Robert Rochfort, of Evanston, Illinois; and John, and Harry, both of whom are residents of Toledo, Iowa.

C. H. Lichty was reared at home and received his education in the public schools of Toledo, this state. He remained under the parental roof until twenty years of age. He settled in Kossuth county in 1883 where he was engaged in farming during the years 1883-4. On January 1, 1885, he established himself in the hardware business in Luverne and to the interests of that business he has since continued to give his entire attention.

Mr. Lichty was united in marriage to Miss Alice Ebersole, a native of Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, and to them seven children have been born: Joseph L., of whom a more extended review is published in another part of this work; Grace, who resides in Luverne; Don P., a resident of Chicago, Illinois, who is an engineer, in the employ of the Chicago Telephone Company; Beatrice, the wife of George W. Harrison, who is engaged in farming in Saskatchewan, Canada; and Phillip C., Lee and Harry Harold, all of whom are still under the parental roof.

Mr. Lichty is affiliated with the democratic party and has held every office in the town and township in which he resides. He is one of the honored pioneer citizens of Luverne and a man interested in every movement of a public nature seeking the improvement and advancement of the people in his county and state.
