Biography reproduced from page 200 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:
Louis Sachs owns two hundred acres of land in Lincoln township, and is successfully engaging in diversified farming and stock-raising. A native of Germany, his birth occurred in Wurtemburg on the 11th of December, 1867, his parents being George and Margaret (Huffman) Sachs. They passed their entire lives in the old country, where the father devoted his energies to agricultural pursuits, with the exception of the three years he served in the army. They are both deceased, the father having passed away in 1895, and the mother some five years later. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sachs, of whom our subject is the youngest. In order of birth the others are as follows: John, who is in Germany; George, who is a resident of Phelps county, Missouri; Barbara, who is deceased; and Margaret and Andrew, both of whom are residing in Germany.
Louis Sachs was reared at home to the age of seventeen years and was given the advantages of a good, practical education. The lure of the new worth proving irresistible to the youth, about 1885 he took passage for the United States, with Wisconsin as his destination. He remained there for about five years, and then continued his journey to Fayette county, Iowa, in 1890. After residing there for five years he came to Swea City, where he worked out by the month for two years. He was thrifty and enterprising and having accumulated sufficient means to engage in farming for himself, he rented a tract of land, which he cultivated with success. Later he purchased a farm in the vicinity of Swea City, to which he removed, but after six years he disposed of it and invested the proceeds in one hundred and sixty acres of his present place on section 16, Lincoln township, on which he has made all of the improvements. Since residing here he has increased his holdings by the purchase of another forty acres located a mile north of his homestead, his real estate now aggregating two hundred acres. In connection with his general farming he is raising a high grade of stock, realizing lucrative returns from both lines of his business.
Mr. Sachs was married in 1897 to Miss Katie Wolfe, and to them have been born four children: Walter, Arthur, Eldon and Vera. The family manifest their religious faith through their connection with the Lutheran church, of which Mr. Sachs is one of the trustees. In politics he is a republican, but has never sought an official position, although he takes an active interest in all local affairs. Mr. Sachs is one of the estimable citizens of his community, where he is highly respected and has many friends.
