Biography reproduced from page 456 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

William Schultz is the owner of a fine farm of two hundred and forty acres in Luverne township, where he successfully engages in general farming and stock-raising. He was born in the vicinity of Ackley, Grundy county, Iowa, April 28, 1869, and is a son of William and Louisa (Carsons) Schultz. The parents were born, reared and married in Germany, whence they emigrated to the United States in 1849, locating in Grundy county. There the father subsequently acquired four hundred acres of land which he cultivated until 1881, when he withdrew from active work and removed to Ackley, spending the remainder of his life in well earned ease. He was the only one of his family who located in the United States, but as he prospered in his undertakings he never had occasion to regret transferring his allegiance to this country. He was a stanch democrat in his political views. Both parents are now deceased, the mother having passed away in 1901, and the father in 1903, and are buried in the cemetery at Ackley. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schultz, our subject being the youngest of the family. In order of birth the others are as follows: John, who is a resident of Parkersburg, Iowa; Frank, who is living in Wentworth, South Dakota; Charles, of Ackley, Iowa; Louis, deceased; Emma, the wife of Christopher Beuyer, a retired farmer, of Ackley; Ella, who became the wife of Thomas Ackerman, of Wellsburg, Iowa; and Matilda, the wife of J. B. Huismann, also of Wellsburg.

William Schultz was educated in the common schools of Ackley, which he attended until he was a youth of eighteen years. He then terminated his student days and for two years thereafter engaged in breeding and raising horses in Ackley. At the expiration of that time he came to Kossuth county and purchased one hundred and twenty acres of land which formed the nucleus of his present farm. He diligently applied himself to the cultivation of this tract, meeting with such lucrative returns from his undertakings that he was subsequently able to extend his holdings by the addition of another tract of one hundred and twenty acres. Here he has ever since engaged in general farming and stock-raising. A man of practical ideas and progressive methods, Mr. Schultz has directed his business in an enterprising and systematic manner and has met with a corresponding degree of success. He takes great pride in his homestead, as is manifested by its well kept and thriving appearance, and owns one of the best equipped and most highly improved farms in the community.

On the 19th of December, 1887, Mr. Schultz was united in marriage to Miss Mary Busse, a daughter of William and Anna (Harms) Busse, natives of Germany, who at one time lived in Kossuth county and are now residents of Madison, South Dakota. Mrs. Schultz was born at Omaha, Nebraska, March 12, 1870. To Mr. and Mrs. Schultz have been born seven children: Pearl May, the wife of Charles W. Riley, a farmer living four miles east of Luverne; and William F., Lewis Cecil, Anna M., Olive, Frank and Ruth, all of whom are living at home.

Mr. and Mrs. Schultz are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. He belongs to the Modern Woodmen of America, and is a democrat in his political views and for nine years served as trustee of his township. A man of marked energy and sagacity, Mr. Schultz has directed his efforts with an intelligent and definite purpose, meeting with corresponding prosperity, and is numbered among the substantial business men and agriculturists of his township.
