Biography reproduced from page 150 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin Reed and published in 1913:
Hiram Sisley, deceased, was one of the most respected and highly esteemed citizens of Luverne, of which city he had been a resident since 1894. He was born in Sheakleyville, Pennsylvania, where he was educated in the public schools and continued to live until he was eighteen years of age. At that time he went to California, making the journey by way of the Isthmus of Panama, and remained in that state for three years. He then returned to Sheakleyville, where he was married and continued to live until 1884. In that year he removed to Iowa and in 1894 settled on a rented farm in Humboldt county, near Luverne, and there passed out of this life on August 29, 1911, and was buried on September 1st at Luverne.
Mr. Sisley was united in marriage to Miss Anna Eells and to them the following children were born: Lou, now Mrs. V. E. Stephenson; Mrs. Nan Montgomery, of Monaca, Pennsylvania; Blanche, Georgia, Rossie, who died in 1902; and Hattie.
Mr. Sisley was one of the most genial and friendly men and one who is missed by a wide circle of friends in this section. He was not a member of any church or lodge but was distinguished for his love of home and devotion to his family. During the long period of twenty years he had never been away from his own fireside for more than one day until a few years ago, when he paid his sister a brief visit in Wisconsin, and if ever a man was entitled to be spoken of as a loving and faithful husband and father that man was “Hi” Sisley.
