Biography reproduced from page 131 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

H. W. Soltow, local manager for Weyerhauser & Company, is one of the enterprising and progressive young business men of Ledyard. He was born at McGregor, Iowa, on April 24, 1888, and is a son of W. F. and Barbara Soltow, who removed to Ledyard in 1894.

H. W. Soltow was only a child of six years when he accompanied his parents on their removal to Ledyard, where he has ever since resided. He was educated in the public schools of this town and here he subsequently received his business training. In 1908, at the age of twenty years, he was made manager of the local branch of Weyerhauser & Company, dealers in lumber, builders' supplies, tile and coal, with general offices located at St. Paul, Minnesota, this being one of several similar enterprises in this vicinity conducted by the same company. This branch was established about nine years before Mr. Soltow became manager and is doing a thriving business, being the only enterprise of the kind in the town.

Mr. Soltow married Miss Eugenia Hartshorn, a daughter of J. W. Hartshorn, of Ledyard, and they have become the parents of one daughter, Zella Mae. The political allegiance of Mr. Soltow is given to the democratic party and he has been councilman of Ledyard for two terms. He is an ambitious young man of excellent habits and standards of conduct, and his many friends prophesy for him a very promising future.
