Herman Wehler, who is associated with his brother, Fred W. Wehler, in the jewelry business in Algona, was born in McGregor, Iowa, on the 26th of March, 1880. He is the fourth in order of birth of the seven children born of the marriage of Gustav and Regina (Shepard) Wehler.

Reared at home in the acquirement of his education Herman Wehler attended the public schools of his native city, until seventeen years of age. Immediately thereafter he entered upon a clerkship in a local dry-goods store and remained in his first employment for six years, becoming during that period familiar with modern commercial methods. Ambitious and enterprising he desired to engage in business for himself and with this idea in mind he subsequently took a course in the Northern Optical College, receiving his diploma on the 15th of April, 1908. Soon thereafter, he became identified in business with his brother in this city, and during the four years of his residence here has made a very favorable impression upon all of his business associates. He has charge of the optical department of their store and is a very efficient and capable optician, as is evidenced by the excellent patronage he has acquired.

In matters of religious faith, Mr. Wehler is a Congregationalist, and fraternally he is a member of Prudence Lodge, No. 205, A. F. & A. M., of Algona, Iowa; Prudence Chapter, No. 70, R. A. M., Algona; Order of the Eastern Star, Algona; Modern Woodmen of America, Monona; and Knights of Pythias, Algona. Mr. Wehler possesses many most excellent qualities, and has made hosts of stanch friends since locating here, both in business and social circles.
