He was born in Livingston, Illinois, March 25, 1860, and is a son of John and Sarah (Dunkelberger) Zeigler, both of whom were natives of Pennsylvania. They removed from that state to Livingston county, Illinois, in 1848, where they continued to reside for some time and later came to Kossuth county, Iowa, remaining here for several years, after which they returned to Illinois and continued to live there during the remainder of their lives. The father was engaged in farming during all his active years. In 1895 he came to Kossuth county, Iowa, and located in Plum Creek township, where he purchased two hundred and eighty acres of land and has since been successfully engaged in the development and cultivation of his farm. He was also the owner of one hundred and sixty acres of land near Burt, Iowa, which he recently sold, and is one of the stockholders in the Cooperative Creamery.

Mr. Zeigler was united in marriage December 25, 1882, to Miss Mary Beaver, and they are the parents of seven children: Ella, who became the wife of Harry Bode of Plum Creek township; Frederick, who married Miss Ina Yeakel; Albert, deceased; and Elmer, Lulu, Wilber and Leola, all at home.
