Mrs. Eva Peters Goepel, Sr., died last Tuesday evening at her home, east of Martinsburg, aged 85 years, five months and four days. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, at Mt. Zion M. E. church, northeast of Martinsburg, conducted by Rev. E. W. F. Holler, pastor of the Martinsburg Presbyterian church, and the interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Goepel was born September 19, 1824, in Germany, and came to the United States in 1844, settling in Keokuk. She was married to Gust Goepel February 16, 1859, and to them were born four children: Mrs. Emma Diedrich, deceased; Paul A. Goepel, of August, of Martinsburg, and Mrs. Eva Ulrey, of Martinsburg
Besides the sorrowing husband and children Mrs. Goepel leaves 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Goepel was a good woman, one who was well loved by her neighbors and friends, and she was a model wife and mother.
