William Irvin Stewart, the son of William Walter and Letty Lewis Stewart was born March 7, 1910 near Rose Hill, Iowa. He attended Old Rose Hill school. On September 25, 1936 he married Mildred Candice Moore Dale in Lancaster, Missouri. He served in the Army during World War II and worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa, retiring in 1973. He lived in the Delta area for over 50 years. He was a member of V. F. W. American Legion, Moose Lodge in Oskaloosa, Eagle Lodge and a 50-year member of Knights of Pythias Lodge in Rose Hill. He was active in baseball as a player, coach, and umpire for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth; one brother, Walter; three sisters, Myra and Erma Stewart and Mary Huff. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mildred; two sons, Richard of Delta, and Larry of Symnra, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Darlene Beall of Ottumwa, Dorothy Bell of Delta, Donna Decker of Hayesville; 12 grandsons; six granddaughters; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Stewart of Washington. Services were held at Delta Christian Church in Delta, Iowa on November 29, 1989 at 1:00 p.m. Burial in Springfield Cemetery located near Delta, Iowa. Arrangements by Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, Iowa.
