December 31, 1930-August 10, 2021

MUSCATINE–Joseph Lee 'Joe' Huff, 90, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2021, at Lutheran Living in Muscatine.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Muscatine Arboretum or to Muscatine Community Foundation Riding For Success Program. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Joe was born on December 31, 1930, in Keokuk, the son of Ross and Myrtle Dell (Fields) Huff. He grew up in Muscatine and was a proud member of Muscatine High School Class of 1948. On August 13, 1950, Joe was united in marriage to Shirley Elaine Sulzberger in Muscatine. They are the parents of one son, Jay Scott Huff.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Army, serving stateside during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 with the 1st Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Following his discharge from the military, Joe attended Muscatine Junior College and worked brief stints on an area farm and at Home-O-Nize before beginning a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service in Muscatine as a letter carrier and fleet supervisor, retiring in 1986.

From his teen years into his early 30's, Joe was the first baseman for George Long's Muscatine Red Sox baseball club, as well as many area fastpitch softball teams. In 2013, Joe was honored as a member of the Muscatine Red Sox Hall of Fame.

Joe had a deep and unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, a faith he shared with his lifelong church family at First Baptist Church, where he was instrumental in the planning and completion of the church's new building on Mulberry Avenue in Muscatine.

Joe is survived by his wife Shirley, of Muscatine, son Jay and his wife Cathy of Sioux City, grandson Sam Huff and his wife Tessa, great grandchildren Evelyn, Jacob, and Thomas, all of Sioux City, and his favorite sister-in-law, Ann Huff of Onalaska, Wisconsin.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ella Mae Bunn and her husband Richard, and brother Don Huff.
