Mrs. D. W. Bruns, 67, died at the Keokuk County Hospital early Sunday morning, September 30. She had been in failing health for several years.
The daughter of Earnest D. and Mollie Strohman, Ethel Geneva Strohman was born on a farm between Sigourney and Webster on May 14, 1889. She attended school at Webster and Sigourney graduating from Sigourney High School in 1908, the valedictorian of her class. She taught school in the rural area near Webster for several years.
On January 7, 1914 she united in marriage to D.W. Bruns and they lived on a farm near Sigourney until 1936 when they moved to town.
Mrs. Bruns was active in the flower and seed department of her husband's and sons' store in Sigourney. She also took an active part in the women's work of the Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Sigourney Presbyterian Church, the Woman's Relief Corps, and an honorary member of the Audubon Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, a brother, Maurice Strohman and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, D.W. Bruns, prominent Sigourney business man; two sons, Ernest and Ralph Bruns of Sigourney and two daughters, Mrs. Roy Nichols of Sigourney and Mrs. Dorothy Koch of Davenport, her brother Emerson Strohman of Solon Springs, Wisconsin, there are ten grandchildren, and a host of relatives, neighbors and friends.
The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, October 2 at 2 p.m. at the Sigourney Presbyterian church. The pastor, the Rev. Ernest Smith, was in charge, Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
