The Rev. Jord Thomas Ruby, age 87, died Tuesday evening, August 22,1967 at the Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa, where he had been living since December 1965. He had been seriously ill since March 2. Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, a 2P.M. at the Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Arthur Lang of Ladora officiating. Mrs. Gene Butler was the organist and Walter Fagen, the soloist. Interment was in the Pennington Cemetery. The Sigourney I.O.O.F. lodge conducted services at the graveside. Casket bearers were Lloyd Bruns, John Cassens, Raymond Chambers, Ward Flanegan, Walter Gilliland, and Vern Sherwood. He was born June 18, 1880 near Ollie, the son of Milus and Elizabeth Jane Reinier Ruby. For a short period of time the family lived in Story County where Mr. Ruby's mother died when he was 2 years of age. The family then returned to Keokuk County, where Mr. Ruby spent most of his lifetime, living in and near Martinsburg and in Sigourney before moving to Wapello County three years ago. November 2, 1904 he married Leota May Larimore at Sigourney and they established their home on a farm north of Martinsburg. They were the parents of five children; four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Velma) Glenn of Agency, Mrs. Milton (Helen) Keck of Fairfield, Mrs. Wayne (Goldie) Angove of Otley and Mrs. Fred (Maxine) Elsensohn of San Jacinto, California, and one son, Garlon (Olive) Ruby of Otley. In addition to his children, Mr. Ruby is survived by 19 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife on September 6, 1932; one grandson David Ruby; three brothers, Will, Hugh, and Anderson; and three sisters, Mrs. Ella Todd, Mrs. Allie Gooch, and Mrs. Lillie Yapp. Ottumwa Courier
