David E. "Gene" Davis, 77, of Hedrick died Aug. 3, 1998 at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.

He was born Oct. 3, 1920 in Ollie to David Teddy and Ethel Sheppard Davis. He married Doris Mae Lynn and she died in October 1943. He married Linda Skinner on Nov. 10, 1962. He was a life long farmer and truck driver. He was a veteran of World War II; a lay speaker for the, United Methodist Church of which he was a member; a founding member of the Hedrick Lions Club; trained and worked with Little Leaguers and Babe Ruth Leagues in Hedrick and was an active member of the Promise Keepers.

He is survived by his wife; a sister, Arlene Norris; two daughters, Sharon Benell and Rebecca Davis; three sons, David W., Stephen and Jesse; six granddaughters and 11 grandsons; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leland and Dale.

Services were held Thurs., Aug. 6 at Hedrick United Methodist Church, the Rev. Joe Lloyd officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.
