Calvin “Jack” Leroy Jacobs, 72, of Sigourney, died June 29, 1995, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born Aug. 5, 1922, near Hayesville to Claude and Myra Reynolds Jacobs. He married Dorothy Showman on Oct. 18, 1947, in Rock Island, Illinois. He graduated from Sigourney high school. He served in Europe during World War II from 1943-46 in the US Army. He was a self-employed general contractor working in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, carpet laying and masonry. He was a member of American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Fowler and Beverly Jacobs; a daughter-in-law, Marla Schmitt; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Bensmiller and Ruth Fry; and two brothers, Eugene and Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Bruce; a daughter Susan; two brothers, Robert and William “Stormy”; and a sister, Bessie Van Orsdall.

Services were held July 1 at Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, the Rev. James Stout officiating. Burial was in Pennington cemetery near Sigourney.
