Mary Iowa Bridges Piersel
(obituary from private family genealogy book; date unknown; source unknown)

Mary Iowa, youngest daughter of James and Elizabeth Bridges was born near Indianapolis, Iowa July 28, 1864. Here she spent all her girlhood days.

She was united in marriage with Charles Eli Piersel August 30, 1882 and went to live on a farm northeast of Indianapolis.

She was the mother of seven children. Four sons and three daughters, all of whom are living, but two daughters Elizabeth Ann and a baby girl, both of whom died in infancy.

Her husband passed away September 25, 1916. She remained on the home place with the children until about seven years ago, where she moved to What Cheer, Iowa, where she has resided until the time of her death.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother and dearly loved to have her family of children and grandchildren around her. Her happiest hours were the hours spent in the presence of loved ones.

She united with the Methodist Church at Indianapolis in her childhood and has remained a faithful member ever since. She also belonged to the various church societies and was faithful in all her duties connected with them.

Saturday morning, January 15th in some unknown way her clothing caught fire and was fatally burned. All that loving hands and medical skill could possibly do for her was done but she lingered only a few hours. She passed away Saturday evening January 15th, 1927 at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 19 days. All of her children were with her in her last trying hours and were around her bedside when she passed away.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her children, Ross and Cecil living near Keswick. Floyd on the old home place, Clifford living near the old home place and Velma, now Mrs. Russell Kent near Beacon.

She also leaves elven grandchildren, a brother, Will Bridges of Oskaloosa, a half brother Earl Bridges of Oklahoma, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A brother, James Bridges and a sister, Mrs. Harris preceded her in death.
