Mrs. Verle (Blanche) Utterback, 70, of Sigourney, died June 19, 1980 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

She was born to Fred H. and Mary Goodman Knox on Dec. 19, 1909 and graduated from Sigourney high school in 1927. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She married Verle Utterback on Feb. 22, 1931 in the Delta United Methodist Church Parsonage. They farmed east of Hayesville until 1974 when they moved to Sigourney. She was a member of the Lancaster Christian church, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and the Chastine Goodwill Club. She also taught in country schools.

Mrs. Utterback is survived by her husband, Verle, four daughters, Mrs. Norman Collins, Mrs. Pete Tallman, Mrs. Robert Forgerson and Avis Keen. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services were June 21 at the Lancaster Christian church with the Rev. Donald Dye officiating. Burial was in Pennington cemetery.
