Harley D. Utterback, 85, died July 3, 1985 in the Sigourney Care Center where he had been a resident for several months. The son of William C. and Clara May Beasley Utterback, he was born Dec. 16, 1899, in Keokuk county near the town of Lancaster.

After attending country school he farmed until Oct. 4, 1920, when he began employment with the Keokuk County State Bank. At the time of his retirement in 1983 he was vice president and also a bank director.

He was a member of the Sigourney Christian church, secretary of the Sigourney Chamber of Commerce from 1942 to 1956 and the Chamber’s treasurer from 1968 to 1970. He also contributed his time and talents to other civic and charitable organizations.

He married Vada Ulin, May 2, 1922 and they were the parents of one daughter, Norma Peterson.

In addition to his wife and daughter he is survived by two granddaughters, Kathryn Ketelson and Michele Turner and his brother, Irvin. His parents and one brother Hubert preceded him in death.

Services were held July 7 at the Sigourney Christian church with the Rev. George Mullins officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
