Raymond E. (Ray) Sheridan, 97, died April 20, 1986, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. He had been handicapped since August, 1951.

The son of Albert and Nancy Harrison Sheridan, he was born Sept. 21, 1888 in Richland Township, Starr Community, Keokuk County, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Bessie Clingan, of Ollie, on Dec. 16, 1914, at Sigourney, Iowa. They made their home on the same farm in East Lancaster Township for 58 years until they moved to Sigourney in January 1972. Mrs. Sheridan preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 1976, and since that time he had made his home at Maplewood Manor, Keota. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Leroy (Winifred) Brown.

He was always active in community life, serving as Trustee in East Lancaster Township for many years and on Election boards. He served four years as a trustee on the first Hospital Board appointed by Keokuk County Supervisors to plan and construct the present Keokuk County Hospital at Sigourney. He was also a member of the Sigourney Oddfellow Lodge No. 98 since Nov. 11, 1909. He remained active as long a physically able and was awarded a 75-year pin in 1984, holding the oldest record in the State of Iowa. In earlier years he helped stage many home talent shows and plays and played baseball with Ollie, Hayesville and Sigourney teams.

He is survived by his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons Larry L. Brown and Thomas J. Brown and their wives, and three great grandchildren, Jason, Derek and Kimberly Brown.

Beside his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Harold and Homer Sheridan, a sister Mabel Lemen, and a great granddaughter Dawn Desiree Brown.

Services were held April 24, at the Lancaster Christian church with the Rev. Don Dye officiating. Interment was in Pennington cemetery.
