C. MAURICE AXMEAR

Clifford Maurice Axmear, 70, of Keswick died Oct. 5, 1987, at North English.

He was born July 14, 1917, near Keswick, the son of George F. and Ethel Fancher Axmear.

Maurice graduated in 1934 from What Cheer High School.

He was Keokuk County chairman for the Republican Party for many years. He organized the Keswick Little League and was a past president of the Modern Cooperative Telephone Company of South English.

He was a 32nd Degree member of Masonic Lodge and an IOOF member of the Odd-fellows Lodge. He was a member of the Keswick Methodist Church and mayor of Keswick for 12 years.

On Oct. 7, 1938, he married Jean Ellen Horras at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died Jan. 29, 1987.

Maurice farmed near Keswick until his retirement in 1974 when he moved to town.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Denny (Evelyn) Garns of Appleton, Wisc., and Mrs. Wayne (Charlotte) Silver of Stutgart, West Germany; four sons, George of Malcom, David of Sigourney, Joe'd of North English and John of Keswick; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Richard of Delta; a sister, Aleda Jean Rouw of Ontario, Calif.

Services were Oct. 8. Bearers of the casket were his sons and sons-in-law: David Axmear, John Axmear, Joe'd Axmear, George Axmear, Denny Garns and Wayne Silver.
