Elda Grace Herr

OLLIE - Elda Grace Herr, 91, of Ollie, died Saturday, March 23, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ollie Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Clarkson officiating. Burial will be in English River Cemetery near South English. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Gould Funeral Home in Richland. A memorial has been established to Ollie Baptist Church.

Mrs. Herr was born Nov. 4, 1904, near South English, the daughter of Ernest Joseph and Lottie Florence McAllister White. She graduated from Webster High School in 1922 and taught in rural school before attending William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She then taught at Heights Elementary School in Washington, Iowa, for 10 years. On June 30, 1037, she married Carl Herr in Oskaloosa. He died June 21, 1994.

She was a member of Ollie Baptist Church and served for many years on the board of Christian education and as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Linby Zephyr Club, the Neighborhood Coffee Club, the Ollie Southerners Club and the Over-55 Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Joyce Newberg of Bremerton, Wash. A brother preceded her in death.
